FREMONT, CA: Microsoft launches new storage model for SharePoint that delivers easy management of available storage across the SharePoint Online team sites. The new storage model is basically a pool-based model applied at the tenant level for SharePoint level, where if the user is using less storage than his allotted maximum limit, the rest of the storage space is returned to the tenant storage pool. So now, only the actual storage used counts against total pooled storage.

Besides the above pooled storage model, new updates to SharePoint includes Site Collection Storage Management feature which comes with a toggle switch with ‘Auto’ and ‘Manual’ as options. Auto enables dynamic storage management while Manual requires the admin to set a limit for maximum storage per site collection.

Another striking features on the anvil is that the individual Office 365 tenants can now have up to 500,000 site collections (up from the earlier limit of 10,000) and they use the same storage pool to access data.

“You can now more easily manage storage quota for SharePoint Online team sites’ based on real usage, and forget about setting aside fixed amounts per site collection,” said Mark Kashman, Senior Product Manager on the SharePoint marketing team.
